Over the years as family and friends gifted their cookbooks to me, and the collection grew to hundreds of individual books containing tens of thousands of recipes, what to do with them all was the question???? share the best of them of course! So here is how…
Starting in the kitchen, with the most used books taken from the shelves, I stacked them close to the computer. Next I started taking pictures, and making scans of page after page.
The first group was the Ask Your Neighbor series of cook books. What a way to rekindle memories. Bob Allison, starting in 1962 heard on WWJ 950 AM Radio, Detroit, with his community of callers sharing their recipe favorites or responding to other listeners questions. Bob was always patient, just moving things along at a comfortable pace for his listeners to write along with the caller. We loved Bob Allison.
I miss all of this. My Mom used to listen since Bob started on the radio and she was a regular caller. My Mom Halina- passed away in 2016. For awhile I still received the menu Minders. Are they still available? is this show still on with Rob.
It was difficult to get reception 690am, we live in clionton township and it was a lot of static.
